I’m delighted to announce that Will Axon will represent the school for the second year running, at the Futurechef Local Final in 2015.
Six extremely organised and keen cooks took part in the School Heat on Tuesday morning. It was a calm, relaxed atmosphere and a pleasure to observe these students prepare, cook and serve these meals. We were fortunate that Peter Walters from Keele University was able to join us, to judge the competition.
This year there was a lot of multicultural influence. We had Italian meatballs, Swedish meatballs in gravy, Spanish paella, Pad Thai, Jamaican Salt Fish and Ackee and a French Chicken Forestiere dish.
Our 6 entrants made:
- Tom Bloor – Pad Thai
- James Taylor Amos – Meatballs in gravy with Spaghetti
- Will Axon – Chicken, chorizo and prawn paella
- Arron Dodd – Meatballs and Spaghetti
- Aliya Barnes – Salt fish and Ackee with rice
- Nathan Williams – Chicken Forestiere
Whilst all students were focused and prepared, serving their food on time, we were looking for a colourful, flavoursome dish. Peter Walters from Keele University was the judge of the competition.
It was agreed that Will worked methodically, kept a clean work area and produced a well presented dish with an attractive garnish.
Will now has to spend the next two months preparing for the Local Final at Stoke-on-Trent College in January.
~ Update ~
Nathan Williams was chosen as Runner Up. We have received news that each school can take two students to the Local Final, so Nathan will join Will at Stoke on Trent College in January.
We wish them both the best of luck!
