Sentinel Shield – Madeley vs Sir Thomas Boughey
Posted: April 2nd, 2015
After a number of cancellations due to poor weather, the quarter final of the Sentinel Shield was played last night. The first half saw a battling performance from STB who struggled to get the ball down and play the usual game due to kicking into a strong wind. It was Madeley who took the lead after STB failed to clear the initial attack. STB began to create more chances and scored the equaliser before the break. A header from James Lovatt was saved by the Madeley keeper however Miles Cleverley scored from the rebound.
The second half saw STB control the early exchanges and took the lead through James Lovatt who finished well beyond the keeper. STB looked solid in defence however Madeley won a penalty late on and scored to send the game straight into a penalty shootout.
After both teams scored their opening 5 penalties, the Madeley keeper saved Tom Jones’ penalty. This left the Madeley captain to score the winner.
An excellent performance from all of the players, who were unlucky to go out on a penalty shootout.
Man of the match voted for by Madeley’s PE teacher was James Lovatt.
