A Celebration of Music 2015
Posted: May 22nd, 2015
The 21st May saw the music department host it’s annual Celebration of Music event.
This is an evening to showcase the hard work going on in the music department within extra curricular ensembles, instrumental lesson and curriculum lessons. Pupils have the opportunity to get together with their friends and perform their own preferred styles of music to their family/ friends and teachers.
This year over 55 pupils were involved in the concert, ranging from years 7 right through to year 11. We saw performances from pupils who have only been learning for 10 weeks, to year 11 GCSE performances demonstrating the skills they have developed over five years at Sir Thomas Boughey. From the music of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Mozart, from Tchaikovsky to Ed Sheeran, the packed-out hall were thoroughly entertained by a wide variety of genres.
There were a range of ensembles from violin solos to a rock band and from piano trios to Harmonize – the STB choir. We were also joined by a large number of our instrumental staff on the evening, supporting their pupils and playing/accompanying them also.
The sound and lighting on the evening was operated by a dedicated team of year 9 and 10 pupils who worked tirelessly to ensure that all performers were equipped on stage and microphones and backing tracks/visuals were set up for them.
Overall the evening was a great success, showcasing music from a large number of pupils and music from a wide variety of disciplines, performing very different genres. Miss Miller and Mrs Trender would like to congratulate all of the pupils who took part and thank the family members, pupils and staff who came along to support the performers on the evening.
