Girls U13 Football Competition
Posted: March 1st, 2016
The U13 5-a-side team took part in the Stoke City Power League competition on Thursday 25th February against schools across the county.
They had 3 games in our section. In the first game, we played against St Margret Ward who took an early lead, whilst STB struggled with the small pitch size and we eventually lost 3-1 to a well organised team. Goalkeeper Ruby Hughes had saved a shot during the game, but injured her thumb in the process and credit to her that she continued without complaint. It was only when coming off the pitch that it was mentioned her thumb was hurting and it was evident that she would not be able to continue in goal that day. Megan Jackson stepped in to be goalkeeper for the rest of the tournament.
In the 2nd game, STB faced an England player in Haywood A team. However, the team worked well to keep her chances to a minimum and she even missed a penalty against Megan in goal. In a close contest, the game was tied at 1-1 with one minute to go, when Haywood scored, not allowing much time for us to respond and so a 2nd defeat at 2-1.
For the 3rd game against Cheadle, the team worked really well together and Lottie Carman scored a hat-trick during a rousing 5-0 win. Unfortunately it was not enough to go through to the semi finals and so the team’s dream of representing Stoke City in the national competition came to an end.
Well done to all the girls who played in a competitive and respectful manner: Eleanor Connelly (captain), Lottie Carman, Isabelle Beeston, Grace Roberts, Sarah Moore, Ruby Hughes & Megan Jackson.
