Match Report – U16 Netball
Posted: October 12th, 2017
On 4th October, the U16 netball team had their first two matches against St. John Fisher and (a surprising arrival of) Newcastle Private.
After a long and useful warm up, with help from Summer Chamberlain, the first match against St. John Fisher starting smoothly with passing from C and GA followed with an excellent shot by Fay Ashley. Rachel Sillitto and Mollie Davis marked well and WD gave lots of support with center passes. There was great feeding from Lucy McManus with her spacial awareness, which was accompanied with tonnes of “magic passes” from Rachel Glover and Rebecca Day. Unfortunately this wasn’t enough, St. John Fisher left us with the score of 16-19, just as we were flying shots in and just about to turn the game around. The first game was played well, and Mrs Locke was happy with us.
The 2nd Match against Newcastle Private awaited us as we watched their match in awe. After Fay sadly left us, we had to place Rachel Sillitto at GS. All was going well as Mollie Davis marked shots and we were only one goal down at half time with a score of 4-5. Loan had worked her socks off whilst she ran around defending and attacking brilliantly at centre, Dilara O’Donnell was working well in the circle, getting rebounds and marking shots, however Maia went down with a tragic fall (push) and had hurt her foot badly. Despite this, she played on.
Sadly they left us with score of 5-11, however we all did very well and should have been proud of ourselves. Player of the Match went to Rachel Glover.
A week later on 11th October, we played Wolstanton High School. We had some strong passes and communicated well as a team in the first half, as the “magic passes” from Rachel Glover and Rebecca Day were still magical and Mollie Davis worked hard to keep up the close defending. Half time ended with us up by 1 shot. However unfortunately, things went downhill in the second half. Dilara O’Donnell tried her hardest to put off the shots but they were too good.
We all worked very hard and came off with red faces, defeated with the score of 14-18 again – a very close match. Player of the Match went to Rachel Glover for the faultless shooting and Loan Nguyen playing excellently at centre. Better luck next time girls.
Thank you for the support from the students and teachers, the help of Miss Bibby shouting support from the sideline, and obviously Mrs Locke for umpiring and coaching us.
– Rebecca Day (Captain)
