STB vs Moreton (National Cup Round 5)

Posted: November 18th, 2013

Sir Thomas Boughey 4 vs 2 Moreton High School (Wolverhampton)

The game started positively for STB defending well and working the ball forward into the space. Unfortunately however it was Moreton who took the lead after their striker appeared to kick the ball out of the grasp of Aaron Ragsdaleā€™s hands in goal to tap in from close range. From the restart STB hit straight back as Matthew Hancock was fouled in the box and Oliver Finney stepped up to equalise from the penalty spot. Changes were made and Elliot Spooner made an immediate impact driving through the Moreton defence however it was Moreton who took the lead once again after STB failed to clear the ball and the midfielder swept the ball into the top corner. Half time score 2-1 Moreton.

The second half began in poor conditions. STB looked to gain the advantage by winning the ball excellently in midfield through Jeff Jolley and Marcus Shaw whilst the defence looked unbeatable thanks to Daniel Taylor, Ben Green and Joe Finney. STB equalised after some great work by Callum Tunstall saw him play in Oliver Finney who kept his cool and slotted the ball into the net. Soon after, a long ball up field gave Elliot Spooner the opportunity to flick the ball on and Oliver Finney scored his hat-trick which sent the supporters on the touchline, aided by Mrs Goodwin, into hysterics. With the game nearing full time, STB looked to defend effectively against an increasingly frustrated Moreton team. However Marcus Shaw finished the game off with a well placed shot into the top corner to give STB a well deserved 4-2 victory.

This means that the team progresses into the final 32 teams in the competition. The competition started with 735 teams. This is an amazing achievement for our school.

Man of the Match, voted for by Moreton PE teacher, was Oliver Finney.

Congratulation to all the players.
