Round 2 County Cup

Blythe Bridge 0 vs 0 Sir Thomas Boughey AET

Blythe Bridge win 4-2 on Penalties

Both teams began the game in solid fashion with little attacking opportunities created by either team. Korrie Biddulph and Miles Cleverley looked unbeatable at the back whilst the midfield trio of Thomas Jones, Theo Harvey and Josh Fox battled well in what were very tricky conditions.

For both teams set pieces looked to be the most effective way to score, however effective defending from both teams saw the game finish 0-0. Due to the fading light it was decided to go straight to penalties.

Blythe Bridge won the toss of the coin and elected to go first and took a 1-0 lead. Thomas Mason took the first penalty and struck the cross bar. Blythe Bridge extended their lead to 2-0 and Josh Fox struck the post with his attempt. Blythe took a 3-0 lead with their third penalty. Thomas Leech scored to make it 3-1. Blythe only need to score to win the shootout, however Jack Middleton in goal saved the spot kick.

Man of the Match Liam Curley calmly slotted his penalty home to make it 3-2 however Blythe Bridge won the shoot out after their final taker scored to make the end result 4-2 and Blythe Bridge progress to round 3 of the county cup.
