Sainsburys National School Games FinalsMegan Jones (Year 10) is a member of the Newcastle-under-Lyme STARS squad, a project run for pupils aged 11-16 who are at regional or national standard in their sport. Megan is a cricketer and was selected for a development day with England Cricket in the summer, through her performances at County level. She attended the level 3 School Games Talent Inspiration Day with Mrs O’Neill at Keele University.

Following this, she was one of only 2 Staffordshire athletes selected to go on a 3 day residential at Manchester University at the Sainsbury’s National School Games Finals. Megan learned about life as a professional athlete with ex-GB Badminton player Anthony Clark and 100 other similar standard athletes. She also attended the opening ceremony at the Phones4U arena with Olympic and World Champions Ellie Simmonds, Adam Peaty, Hannah Cockroft and Dina Asher-Smith, who also shared their experiences.

Megan thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the chance to meet other athletes of her age in a similar position. We wish her well with her future career hopefully as an England cricketer.
