Pupils Realise Their Potential at Inspirational MMU Day

Sir Thomas Boughey High School pupils are setting their sights high after a visit to Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).
A dozen Year 11 pupils headed to the university’s All Saints campus in Manchester to find out more about life at a top university and Higher Education programmes.
The group, accompanied by Mr Moss and Mrs Griffin, enjoyed a campus tour and took part in a workshop about student finances and managing budgets. They also participated in a question and answer session with students to find out more about the university, university life and programmes of study. Pupils also gained an insight into travelling to a busy city at a peak time and organised their own train tickets and itinerary.
All the pupils who took part in the day thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Sophie Lear said “I thought that the experience was important and it made us more comfortable with the idea of going to university.”
Pupil James Bloor said: “I didn’t want to go to university, but now I am thinking about it after this visit.”
Sam James added “We enjoyed the experience of going to MMU and learning how to cope with financial issues. It has changed our views about going to university.”
The school is planning future visits to universities to raise awareness of Higher Education and give pupils the opportunity to see how far they can go in the world of education. Miss Hingley, Assistant Head at Sir Thomas Boughey High School, said: “This was an excellent day for our pupils and it gave them a fascinating insight into studying at a university in the heart of Manchester.”
