The Climbers’ Club

Posted: September 7th, 2016

On the 18th July 2016, 16 pupils from Sir Thomas Boughey were taken out to Windgather to experience a day of outdoor climbing. Throughout the year there is The Climbers’ Club that goes with Mrs Locke to Peak Pursuits indoor climbing wall on a Friday. This club is every Friday until 5.30pm and is open to all students.

On arrival at Windgather (in the north Peak District) the windy roads were misty but the excitement on the bus was electric. We met up with Mr Cumberland and the Peak Pursuits instructor, and proceeded to do some low level bouldering to warm up. The sun shone, drying up any dampness in the atmosphere, and all students had hours of fun putting their indoor rope work skills to practice and experiencing climbing on the grit stone crag.

The Sir Thomas Boughey students were outstanding in all areas. They respected the nature and natural surroundings leaving only footprints whilst taking in the stunning views from the crag. Exemplary safety and respect for others was shown at all times.

If you are interested in joining The Climbers Club please see Mrs Locke or the PE department.
