Young Voices 2017
Posted: February 15th, 2017
Young Voices is a mass choir event that takes place annually at various big arenas in the UK. For the last three years STB have been one of the only secondary schools to take a choir to this amazing event. Schools receive the songs and music to learn in September/October and have a few months to get the words and ‘move’ perfect for the arena performances.
We left school on the 10th Feb this year at 12.30 to get to Manchester Phones 4 U Arena for a rehearsal with the other 8223 singers. We met the conductor, the very famous Sir David Lawrence and his musicians on stage and practiced all of the songs ready for the evening concert – our favourites being ‘Pop Medley’ and ‘Birdhouse in your Soul’.
In the evening concert it was a complete sell out – not a seat to be had. We all wore the Young Voices T Shirts and shone our mini torches and the atmosphere was electric. We saw surprise appearances from the Beatbox Collective, Charlene Hector – singer from Basement Jaxx and hip hop dancing from Urban Strides. We also had the opportunity to sing along with the Rock star Tabby O’ Callaghan in ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.
All of the harmonize girls thoroughly enjoyed the event again this year. A very tiring day, but well worth it!
