Newcastle Under Lyme Swimming Championships
Posted: January 31st, 2020
Twenty of our students today took part in the Newcastle-Under-Lyme Swimming Championships today and did the school proud. All the boys and girls competed superbly in both the morning and afternoon sessions, but honourable mentions (for various reasons) must go to David Lockett, Blake Smith, Matthew Smith, Olivia Allen, Emma Gallimore, Csenga Ispan…and Ella Parsons, who swam against girls three years older than herself and did the school proud.
However, similar to last year where Scott Pattyson & Ben Finney broke District records…well, they broke two more!
First up was Scott in the U.14 25m Butterfly, where he smashed his own record set last year of 13.94 seconds, to achieve a time of 13.00 seconds. Surely this will last for many more galas to come.
Shortly after, Ben beat another record in the U.16 25m Butterfly. After a slow start which Ben was disappointed with (the starter must have had a train to catch?!), he powered past the other competitors to record a time of 13.34 seconds, beating a previous District record of 13.41 seconds.
Many congratulations to all the swimmers who took part today, and especially to these two record holders…proof that hard work and determination pay off massively in both life and sport.
