School History – 1950
1950 – “Changing Times”
We have very few photographs about our school. If you have any that you would like to share with us do contact us, alternatively you may be able to add detail to the ones in our archive. Do you recognise the face?

The figure in the gown of the front row, third from the right is certainly the Headteacher, Mr Croft. The person second from the left is said to be the Chair of the Audley & District Local Council. We are not sure about the others but there are certainly two members of the local religious community on the back row.
The occasion is unknown for certain but could be the dedication of the memorial table in the early 1950s.
For more about this see the 1930s section.

Although extensively changed and renovated many of these buildings remain. To the left can be seen the edge of the 1930s school hall with the link corridor connecting it to the rest of the school. The school was essentially a C shaped building constructed in the 1930s ready for the re-organsiation which would close the infant and junior departments but extended the senior part of the school. The Open corridors were demolished and replaced just after 2000 but at the time of the photograph were open to the play area.
The rooms to the right were woodwork, (now the library and open learning centre) and science (now part of the Geography Department.)
In the 1960s, the playground was removed and turned into a garden. This exposed part of the 1930s blue brick tard, a section of which is now on display.
