STBA Spitfires Go Crazy!
Posted: November 30th, 2017
This week, our Greenpower team STBA Spitfires seem to have gone crazy!
Reggie has been stripped naked of all his lovely black carbon and most of his innards have been removed. No, he’s not destined for the scrapyard but a total overhaul which will consist of a redesigned chassis – which will result in a longer, streamlined nose, a curved body and aerodynamic tail section. We will also be developing his electronic controls, as new competition rules this year mean we have to use a ‘soft start’ system (Reggie can’t be given a helping push by pit crew).
Meanwhile, ‘Mitch’ – our second car – has already had a new steering mechanism fitted by our students which will give smoother, more precise handling. Mitch will also undergo some changes to the body work to improve aerodynamics and reduce weight.
Finally, the students are also working on building two Goblin cars which are suitable for 9 to 11 year olds. These will then be further developed and raced by pupils at Ravensmead primary school.
